Side Event of 13th Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) on Ageing

Everywhere, COVID exposed inequities and unleashed a torrent of disease and death, especially among older persons. Nowhere was this more apparent than in the long term care sector, where the underappreciation of the human rights of older persons became increasingly evident. This applies both to developed and developing countries. With a deeper understanding, we have the opportunity to implement lessons learned to properly incorporate respect for the human rights of older persons into the evolution of long term care systems – both residential and family caregiving.
