New Yorkers who are registered for a major party–you have a primary coming up!
While it is all-too-easy to get all-consumed by what is happening in Washington, DC, it’s the stuff that happens at the local level that can have the greatest impact on daily life. On issues of aging, local elections can greatly impact how the City’s Department for the Aging is run, how our local public hospitals run. On issues of human rights, cities in New York (and especially New York City, where we are based) can set a tone, for better or for worse. Hopefully, for better, because it’s not that great from a human rights standpoint in Washington, DC.
In figuring out who to vote for, we should take a look at candidates’ track records. Many of the candidates have past and/or present records as legislators. One of the candidates is a former Comptroller, and another candidate is a former Governor. Each person’s track record deserves scrutiny.
While we, as a 501(c)(3), cannot endorse candidates, we can, we will, and we are telling this to New Yorkers: educate yourself, and go vote! Early voting is happening through next weekend, and the primary is on Tuesday, June 24th.
