The Gross, Greedy Bill

Some call the recent spending and tax cut bill signed into law the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” But, given the nature of the bill, perhaps a more appropriate name is the “Distrous, Distasteful, Disgusting Bill.”
Why? Here are a few lowlights:
Millions more Americans are projected to be left uninsured by 2034, according to the Congressional Budget Office. A lot of this is aided by Medicaid cuts.(1)
The bill will require states to contribute more to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). (2) At a time when there are already so many food-insecure Americans, the federal government cutting funding from SNAP is a huge mistake.
The bill eliminates incentives for clean energy programs that were in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.(3)
It also removes tax incentives for Americans who invest in clean energy for their homes. (4) Given that clean energy is important for fighting climate change–something that undoubtedly contributed to natural disasters like the recent flooding in Texas–this is a horrid idea.
The bill gives tax breaks to the wealthy. And, in fact, it seems like the cuts to benefits for the poor is how we’re paying for tax cuts to the wealthy. (5)
There is nothing beautiful about taking away health care, putting food benefits in jeopardy, or making our air dirtier–all the while those who don’t need the help (wealthy Americans) are getting more tax breaks. It’s certainly big, but definitely not beautiful.
Better words to describe it would be gross and greedy. Working class Americans will be financially ruined, all for the sake of these members of Congress (many of whom stand to benefit themselves from said tax cuts) and their wealthy millionaire and billionaire friends being further enriched. It’s gross and greedy, not big and beautiful.
